It’s time for a contest!

You may be able to tell, but I have absolutely fallen in love with the power of AI art. I believe it’s an extremely useful tool that gives everyone the ability to express themselves creatively.

I want to encourage my community to use that power of expression. In Actively Unwoke, I wrote that human beings either become creators or destroyers.

Trust me, you want to be a creator. All that’s required is to literally create something. Create a product, a service, a business, a craft, a piece of art, etc.

AI Art gives everyone the ability to take the pictures that exist in their head and bring them to life. You can literally create ANYTHING - just write down a few words on a prompt about what your idea is and see what happens.

To entice everyone to give it a try, I’m hosting an Unwoke AI Art Contest.

My personal preference for art is when it illustrates some sort of unspoken truth that cuts past all the bullshit and goes straight to the heart of the matter, but I prefer it to be done in a way that it doesn’t hit you right in the face. It should have humor to it, be unexpected, and perhaps even a bit of darkness to expose the underbelly of humanity.

Here’s how the contest will work:

• Use any AI Art generator you like. There are a million of them out there. Midjourney is my personal go-to at the moment, but I’ve played with a dozen of them and each has benefits and drawbacks. Many of them will give you free credits to start with. You can do a quick search and find some options.

• I will give you a list of prompts relating to woke culture below.

• I want you to make an image that represents those prompts.

• You will post your images in this Substack’s Chat in the designated thread (click open on web under the QR code to access it). When you post, you’re welcome to tell us a little about the image and your ideas.

For instance, if I gave you the prompt of “the two party system,” you might come up with an image like this:

They may seem like sworn enemies if you watch the news, but this image demonstrates that there is really only one party in Washington because they’re all friends. The uni-party is real.

You can add text to your image, or just let it speak for yourself. It’s entirely up to you.

If you really want to use traditional mediums, you are welcome to as long as you can make something visual. But I want to encourage everyone to try AI because it can be a great inspiration for traditional mediums.

You can make art for any of the following prompts:

• Woke

• Cancel culture

• Struggle session

• White supremacy

• Patriarchy

Create an image that represents one of those concepts in an interesting way that provides subversive commentary that we can all enjoy.

You can enter as many of the categories as you like, with as many images as you like. I will pick my top choices for each category, up to 5 selections, and then the community will vote on which they like the best.

When you have your images, head over to the chat to post them in the appropriate thread. (Again, click on “open on web” under the QR code to access it if you’re viewing on a browser)

The contest will run through the end of April, and then we will do a week of voting in the first week of May to decide the winners!

The prizes

Then, the five winners will move on to the grand finale where they will compete for the prizes.

Here’s what you’ll get:

• First place will get a $100 gift certificate to the Unwoke Art store.

• Second place will get a $50 gift certificate to the Unwoke Art store.

• Third place will get a $25 gift certificate to the Unwoke Art store.

• All winners will have the option of their design being sold on merchandise in the Unwoke Art store, with full credit given and links to whatever platform you would like people to find you on.

• Everyone who enters will get a discount code for 20% off their purchase in the store.

This is going to be a ton of fun.
